This is a neat idea. I have been playing around with the idea of changing how shortcuts get updates myself. I hadn't wanted to actual name a shortcut UpdateKit as it might cause confusion, but it's a neat idea. I suppose anyone that downloads this knows that they are replacing the real UpdateKit with this one.

Also, if you are going this far, why not just incorporate the Updates Check Auto shortcut actions into this one? It's not very many actions (which is the whole point of using it), so including it would eliminate the need for yet another updates shortcut.

Why are these feedback boxes so short! LOL. I think you have inspired me to write a similar replacement for UpdateKit that actually just adds the shortcut to the configuration file that Check For Updates uses. That has almost zero overhead, but still lets people check for shortcut updates periodically.

I'm getting an error when there is a shortcut update available. The shortcut is adding a "-2" to the shortcut name. It looks like your code is a bit different than Updates Check Auto that I have. Mine just uses the API:URL to launch Safari. Yours is attempting to do a direct download, I believe.

Also, for compatibility with UpdateKit and specifically RoutinePub that uses it, you need to report back that UpdateKit is up to date. As the last line of code you need to set a Dictionary with "Exit Mode":"Update To Date" and "UpdateKit Version":"3.1.4" (or higher I suppose).

@timnicholson
Literally, just put in a Dictionary with the exact values above. I don't think I can post a screenshot here to show you.

The more familiar way to get shortcuts is through UpdateKit, and Lloyd sheng provides updated support for all shortcuts on jiejinghe.com. There is no need for the creator to manually configure the update feature. There is also no need for the user to download a shortcut similar to UpdateKit to check for updates, and the update speed is also very fast in actual use (jiejinghe.com is a Chinese website)
