Quote from the Web
Save quote from the web, keeping links and source
Description
I was looking for an app to be able to highlight quote from the web for a thesis. Couldn't find anything without registration so I made this little shortcut that save text (including link) to a markdown format.
I use Draft to save the text, but you could edit it and put your favorite markdown text editor that support append text (or just keep RTF and put it in a compatible app)

I watched your video and can’t seem to get this to work. I highlight the text I want to save to drafts and when the options come up to Copy, Lookup, Share, I choose share. I select the Quote shortcut and Drafts opens but I get the error message “Draft not found for UUID”
Any suggestions? Thanks!

Hi ! You need to update the shortcut with the UUID of your draft. Currently there is nothing so Draft can’t find any draft.
When you add the shortcut you should see a panel asking you to put the UUID name inside.
To get this UUID name, just go to Draft. Open a new draft (called it Quote for exemple). Press the « i » and in the middle of the first panel you can copy the UUID.
Let me know if it’s working for you.

I don’t see a panel asking me to put the UUID name inside after I add the shortcut and try to run it for the first time through the shortcuts app.
I actually had another problem when I first added the shortcut. It wouldn’t show up in the share sheet. I edited it to accept more things like text, etc and now it shows up in the share sheet but still doesn’t work. Here’s a screencast of what happens. Thanks for the help. Ok sorry I updated a new version of the shortcut. Deleted the shortcut's question. So the flow for the configuration :
- Download the shortcut again (my bad)
- When you added the short, you'll see "Put the Draft UUID". It's what you have to configure. So go get the UUID of the Draft in the app and put it there. Press "Ok" and you are good to go
If you want to make sure, go check out the last action of shortcut and you should see the uuid of the draft.

Try it when you select text, use the share sheet and launch the draft, it'll add the quote in the draft with the right UUID.
Also, you shouldn't run the shortcut by himself directly on the shortcut app. It's made to work with webpage from safari only. You have to be on a Safari webpage and use the share sheet only (with the quote selected).
Let me know if it's good for you. If not I'll make a quick screencast tomorrow.

I reinstalled the shortcut and it did ask me this time for the draft uuid, which I pasted in. The main problem of the shortcut not showing up in the share sheet is still there. I am going to change it so that it accepts text input like I changed the last one and see if that works.

I added to the shortcut at the top Accepts Safari webpages and Text (instead of just Safari Webpages) and now the shortcut shows up in the Share sheet, but here is what it looks like when i highlight the text and run the shortcut by selecting share to pull up share sheet. It works but is it supposed to look like that in drafts? It only copies part of the highlighted text. https://imgur.com/a/07Tgvw0

Take a look a the shorcut you’ll see why you need to share with Safari webpages and not Text. The purpose of the shorcut is to save quote from the web, not any text. When you selected text don’t hit the share button of the pop-over but the one from the global app (with the icon, top right corner). This way you’ll share the webpage and not the text only

Thanks for continuing to patiently assist me in this. I reset your setting to accept only safari webpages.
I highlighted the text and then shared it in the regular share sheet not the pop over-I saw your demonstration video and thought that’s what you did, that’s why I was trying to do it like that.
This is how it saved in drafts. https://imgur.com/h9kODbb

Are you sur you didn't edit the shorcut ? I saw that the second and third "Get [] from Sorthcut Input" doesn't have anything in the Get property. I've them when I download again the shorcut. It should be "Webpage URL" and "Webpage Selection" (or something similar, I'm not in english) for the first and second respectivly. Are you sure you are under iOS 13 ? Maybe is a bad conversion to oldest version of iOS.

I have a brand new iPhone 11 Pro Max with the latest version of iOS 13. This is what the shortcut looks like. I downloaded it just now and didn’t touch anything. https://imgur.com/a/eJCn7wx

I edited the shortcut changing the second and third fields from blank to Page URL and Page Selection. Works great now. When I downloaded the shortcut, those two sections were blank. https://imgur.com/a/2IAbpaU
Looks good now! Thanks for the help! This is going to be a useful shortcut! Maybe you can update the shortcut so those two sections are fixed?

I'm glad you make it works :) I would love to but I try to download the shorcut again and I get the field with the right value. No idea about what appends. I suspects it's because my phone is in french... maybe but don't have any other clue
