Rob’s OCR
Conduct OCR on any photo or file
Description
Top OCR Shortcut on RoutineHub
Rob’s OCR uses optical character recognition to recognize text from the camera, a photo, iCloud or Dropbox. The results are displayed on your screen, copied to your clipboard, and optionally, saved to a file.
New features:
- Menus with images for easier shortcut navigation
- OCR PDF documents
ROB’s OCR can also be integrated into your own shortcuts to give them OCR capabilities.
Rob’s OCR requires a free personal api key from OCR.Space. The api key will be saved in a small file in your iCloud.
You will be prompted to enter your api key the first time the Shortcut runs. If you do not have one, the Shortcut will guide you through the process to get the api key.

I'm trying to use this for the first time and it's giving me an error that the file doesn't exist. Does it not create the file automatically? I did acquire the API as mentioned in the shortcut.

@jdgallant - you need to to copy the api key into the box that pops up. The Shortcut should then create the file for you.

@gsmcintyre
Just to be clear, do you mean we need an API key from ocr.space? Your description says “space.ocr”.

FYI: just tried to sign up for an API key via the shortcut-generated html page, but kept getting a “too many requests from this email please try again later“ error. After trying multiple emails, I just went to their website & was able to register so it seems like the issue is related to the shortcut.

Update: can’t seem to get it to work. No matter what image I pass into or select from the shortcut the “Show result“ action is blank—even with a screenshot of just text?

@dastefster, sometimes the API goes down for a while. Have you tried it again this morning to see if it works now? If it is still not working, I recommend deleting the api key file in your shortcuts folder and re-entering the API. If that still doesn’t work, can you try running it from the edit view and let me know if it is stalling at a certain point (and if so which one)?

I deleted and reentered the API keyAnd tried it again with several different images, but am still having the same issue. I ran it several times from the edit view and it doesn't seem to be hanging anywhere. Iit runs rather fast until reaching the show result action, Which is always blank
