Turn on my TV
"Hey Siri, turn on my (Apple) TV"
Description
With Turn on my TV you're able to boot/turn on/wake your tv and TV (HDMI-CEC required) at the same time. This works for tvOS 13 and above.
Import Questions
After importing the shortcut, you will have to go through a configuration process:
- This shortcut uses an embedded updater to check for updates. So when you run it for the first time in the Shortcuts app, please allow access to RoutineHub.co. You only have to do that once.
- To run this shortcut, you need a TV that supports HDMI-CEC, an Apple TV and you have to be on the same Wi-Fi network as your Apple TV. Furthermore you need to grant access to Apple TV Remote. In the second step of those five Import Questions please select your Apple TV.
- Do you want the Apple Remote Control app to open after your Apple TV and TV are turned on/woken up? Type "Yes" or "No".
- No matter which answer you chose in the previous step. Please select your Apple TV again. If you chose e.g. "No" in step 3, but want to change this setting to "Yes" later, that's no problem. All you have to do is return to the Import Questions: Open the shortcut in edit mode and tap the button with the three dots in the upper right corner. Then tap on "Customize Shortcut".
- One last thing: With iOS 13 it is no longer possible to create your own Siri phrases like in iOS 12. Now with iOS 13 the name of the shortcut is also the Siri phrase. Since the name of the shortcut is "Turn on my TV", you have to activate the shortcut as follows: "Hey Siri, turn on my TV". If you want to use another Siri phrase, you have to rename the shortcut.
No third party Updater Shortcut required.
Turn on my TV has an integrated update mechanism called Embed-a-Update. Thanks to the embedded updater, Turn on my TV does not require any external updater shortcut. The shortcut checks for updates itself, so you'll always be up to date and never miss an update.

This Shortcut is available exclusively on RoutineHub.co. If you find it somewhere else, it's a fake. Please let me know in the comments below if you found this Shortcut somewhere else. Thanks.

When I run the Shortcut manually ATV 4K turns on and the ATV Remote App opens. When I ask SIRI on my Homepod to "Turn on my TV" ... SIRI return an Okay, or All Set reply to the command but nothing happens.

Hey! Well, have you already added your personal Siri phrase? If not, you need to do that first. If yes, this unfortunately has nothing to do with the Shortcut itself. Hope I can help you. :)

@Mbierman
This doesn’t seem to be working.
Yes, I’m on the same WiFi.
Yes, I have the right IP and serial number...
Anyone confirm this works on tvOS 12.2?

Looks like, “http://ip:3689/login” works without the need for the serial number. I have made a version that lets me choose from the 3 Apple TVs we have if anyone cares for it I am happy to share.
Thanks again, this is a terrific Shortcut!

Wow, that'd be awesome! Really? Before tvOS 12.1.1 it was only possible with ID and Serial. Since tvOS 12.1.1 it was necessary to add "User-Agent: Remote/1.0" to the "Get Contents of URL" action. If neither the ID nor the Serial are required now, the whole configuration process is superfluous. :) I'll check it out tomorrow! (Here it is already after 1am and I have to get up in six hours.) Thanks a bunch Mbierman!

Just to clarify, you still need the IP (though someone claimed you could use, “AppleTV Name.local” (url encoded?) but I didn’t try that. That would mean you don’t have to use a fixed IP address though which would be nice.
Still, dropping Serial number is easier if it isn’t required, which for now it seems it isn’t.

Is there a "tv off" shortcut available?
Thanks again!

Thank you for creating this. This was the first thing I looked for when I got my Apple TV. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to work at all - I keep getting a "cannot connect to the server" error. If I run the shortcut by hand, I get that error, and if I ask Siri, she tries but never does anything. I've tried pretty much everything, so maybe it's a software conflict? I'm running Apple TV beta OS 13. Or maybe I'm missing something?

I think the problem is with iOS 13. The shortcut is suitable for all current versions of iOS. With iOS 13, we're all facing significant changes, so some shortcuts might not work if they're not customized. Since iOS 13 will officially be released in autumn, I won't adapt this shortcut yet. Otherwise nobody could use it with iOS 12 anymore. But thanks for your feedback! :)

An app I needed on my phone stopped working, so I downgraded to iOS 12. I reinstalled the shortcut and it starts to work more than it did last time ("running your shortcut...") but then it just goes to the shortcut page and says "could not connect to server". My TV os is still the beta though (13.0), so that seems to be the problem. Thought I would send this just FYI (before both phone and tv were on beta 13, now only tv is, but shortcut still doesn't work).
